Gabrielle Raye Cordes

Bio:

Raye Cordes is a queer, Puerto Rican-German visual artist and sculptor based out of Minneapolis, MN. She graduated with an Art BFA from the University of Wisconsin (UW) – Madison in May 2018, during which she received scholarships such as the Powers-Knapp Scholarship, the Lois G. Roberts UW Art Department Scholarship in painting, the Truman Lowe UW Art Department Scholarship in sculpture, and the Central Minnesota Arts Board(CMAB) Student Arts Scholarship.

Since graduating she has shown their work in solo and group exhibitions primarily in the midwest, received a CMAB Arts Learning Grant and Arts Initiative Grant through the Minnesota State Arts Board, and was awarded residency fellowships at Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer MN, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City NE, and Vermont Studio Center in Johnson VT. Currently, Raye is a PF Studios Incubator Resident with Public Functionary in Minneapolis MN.

Statement:

Raye’s work explores intersections between natural and artificial processes, functions, and aesthetics that create new contexts and connections between these two seemingly opposed worlds through the use of mixed-media. She is continuing this exploration while evaluating varying impacts of consumerism.
