The piece is architectural in nature, but also exhibits bodily qualities with its nostril inspired interior. Looking into or entering one’s personal space is as intrusive as looking up someone’s nose; more intimate qualities are on the inside as opposed to the outside, both physically and emotionally.

Perennial8’ x 4’ x 1.5’Steel, cable ties, spray paint2019Perennial is inspired by the formal qualities and the robust nature of Canada Wild Rye, which is a native perennial plant in Minnesota. I was drawn to the plant’s spike-like clusters at the top of its stem, and how they reacted to direct sunlight which created a glowing effect around the stem. This is the same effect that I wanted to create with this piece, however in an abstracted and industrial way.
